NEW!    Saturday, 5-1-10, we held another Adult Jam. It was a lot of fun. I want to thank Jim Trussell (and Mary) for hosting the Jam. Jim played drums and I played bass. A couple of the students perfomed for the rest of us. I got up the nerve to play One Legged Man for everyone.  Check out the pictures at
www.facebook.com/napervilleguitarlessons   You dont have to have a FB account, just go to the page and click on photos.

NEW!
Saturday, 3-20-10, we held a small Adult Jam. I want to thank Katie Khoury (and Joseph) for hosting the Jam. We played some songs and had a lot of fun. I showed everyone that changing strings doesn't have to be a big deal and can be done in five minutes or less (or more). Check out the pictures at

NEW!
I have been working with a few High School Seniors that want to teach musical instruments. . While they are just starting out on their partime adventure, they have this great desire to help people learn to play. If you know of a beginner non-adult piano or guitar student that would like to get a great in-home rate, please contact me at tschaf@aol.com or 630-696-0783.  See their bios at

I am very excited to announce that I am now an authorized
Luna Guitars dealer. They have a great line of guitars that are easy to hold, easy to play and easy to look at. Most of my sales will be from the catalog but when I can I will try to stock some of the product. I will post a page as soon as I can. Thanks Luna!

NEW! We had a great time at the last Jam. Here are the photos Adult Jams Cedirick did a great job fingerpicking House of the Rising Sun. Mike ,Mark and Eric all got up and sang songs. And John even broke out of his Elvis Costello mode! As usual, no body was required to play for the group and we did enough group songs for everyone to have a good time. The next Adult Jam is scheduled for May 31st. It will be our last one for the summer unless we have and Outdoor Adult Jam! But please remember, if you show off you must shove off!

NEW! We will have another Adult Jam at Vocals and More 481 N. Commons Rd., Aurora 8:00 PM, April 26th.. As usual, you are welcome and you may bring friends. But no Guitar Heroes or showing off! It's just adult beginners playing together and having a good time. Check out the pictures of the previous. Adult Jams

NEW! We start our second season of Adult Jams Saturday, February 2nd at Vocals and More 481 N. Commons Rd., Aurora 7:00 PM. As usual, you are welcome and you may bring friends. NEW! I've started a blog that you can view at this location NGL Blog I'll try to update it weekly. Eventually I will put videos on it like playing tips, guitar care etc. Check it out often..

NEW! Here are the photos for the latest Adult Jam held at Vocals and More. We had a great time. We sang some songs together and then everyone sang a solo song. It was great! Anne sang a song she wrote; good job Anne. Jim sang a Third Day song for everyone that he would later sing at his daughter's wedding reception. It was great. I later heard from Jim and he said it went well. His daughter cried and the bridesmaids all said they want their Dads to sing a song at their weddings! Here is the link November Adult Jam

NEW! We had our September Adult Jam and it was a lot of fun. Our next Jam is scheduled for November 10th, 7:00 PM at Vocals & More , 481 N. Commons Rd., Aurora. Anyone is welcome to join us even if you don't play guitar. Just remember that this is a beginners' jam and not a battle of the guitar gods! Check out this link to see photos from the Adult Jam Session.

NEW! Try before you buy! In about two months of lessons you can learn a few chords and a couple of songs. You rent one of my guitars to learn on for eight lessons. Then you'll have a better idea of what to look for when you go to buy your own brand new guitar. That could save you from being bullied by the salesman and buying the wrong instrument.

NEW! We've had Adult Jams each month from January to April and each one was a lot of fun. Because everyone gets busy during the summer, we're going to have our next Adult Jam in September. I'm going to try to time it after we get our fall issues of Play Guitar Magazine. Anyone is welcome to join us even if you don't play guitar. Just remember that this is a beginners' jam and not a battle of the guitar gods! Check out this link to see photos from the Adult Jam Session.

NEW! On January 20, we held our first Adult Jam Session at Vocals and More in Aurora. We had a great time singing and playing songs. Everyone learned something and had fun. Five students got up in front of their peers and performed. The Adult Jam Sessions are held for our adult beginner guitar students and guests. The idea is to give adults the opportunity to play with others on their level, to meet other adult guitar players and to perform if desired. Check out this link to see photos from the Adult Jam Session.

NEW! On July 2nd, 6:00 PM, one of my students, Alex Martyn, played the Star Spangled Banner on guitar to kick off the second day of the Naperville Rib Fest. He opened for Better Than Ezra. Is that great or what! He's a good guitar player and I'm very proud of him. I have a video I'll put up on the website soon, along with performances from other students.

NEW! If you are an existing student, please check out the STUDENTS ONLY section for the photo gallery and forums.

NEW! For all the girls 8-13 we're learning Best of Both Worlds from Hannah Montana and a couple other songs. For the guys, we're learning Move On, Dirty Little Secrets and Brain Stew to name a few.

NEW! Since I dusted off my old D-28 and it's in the repair shop, I've been bringing out the old Neil Young songs. Heart of Gold, Needle and the Damage Done, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, etc. I want to be ready when my old guitar is ready.
